Cosmetology
The
Cosmetology program at SUN Tech
is designed to prepare students for
entry level positions in the exciting world of cosmetology. It also
provides students with the basis and insight to seek out numerous and
diverse opportunities for advanced education associated
with the cosmetology profession.
Students enrolled in this program will receive both theoretical and hands-on-training in the areas of:
- Hair care/scalp care
- Haircutting
- Hairstyling
- Chemical reformation (permanent waving, chemical relaxing)
- Hair color and lightening
- Hair braiding and long hair design
- Male hair cutting and styling
- Facial treatments
- Basic massage
- Make-up application
- Hair removal
- Artificial hair applications
- Basic nail care
- Nail art (including airbrushing)
- Artificial nail applications
- Cosmetic chemistry and product knowledge
- Related anatomy and physiology
- Decontamination and infection control
- Salon safety and salon management
In order to supplement the educational experience students enrolled in the program attend several hair shows during the year, complete a minimum of two job shadow experiences, and if they complete the 1250 hourly requirement before graduation will complete a salon internship.
A student-run cosmetology clinic also provides a unique opportunity for students to learn realistically about their career choice. This clinic is open to the public Thursdays and Fridays from late September to May. All work is done by students only, and a minimal charge is made for materials only.
