All graduates of the Cosmetology program receive a certificate
indicating that they have successfully completed the full year training
program.
Students who successfully complete a minimum of 1250 hours of training
and all curriculum requirements will be eligible to take the
Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology Exam. This exam consists
of both a practical and written test component. Students who
successfully pass this exam will become licensed cosmetologists and
will be eligible to seek employment opportunities in the field of
cosmetology in Pennsylvania. This license will allow individuals
to work in salons providing hair, skin and nail services. They
may even choose to own and operate their own salon.
During the school year, students who successfully complete 200
hours of training specifically in the area of nail care, or 300 hours specifically
in the area of skin care, may make application to the state board to
take these limited licensing exams. Upon receiving these
licenses individuals will be eligible to seek employment in salons
performing services in their respective specialty areas.
Cosmetology students who pass their state-licensing exam on the
first attempt will also be issued a Pennsylvania Skills
Certificate. This certificate is recognized by employers as
proof that the student has demonstrated competency in both knowledge
and skills necessary for successful entry into their chosen
profession.
