The
employment outlook for Dental Assisting is very good. There are more
than 200,000 active dental assistants in the U.S. today. Most areas of
the country are currently reporting shortages of dental auxillary.
On the average, dentists work with about four staff members who
include dental assistants, dental hygienists and dental laboratory
technicians, not to mention average front office and business
management.
The national wage of a dental assistant is $9.90 an hour.
Formally trained dental assistants usually are paid higher
salaries.
Many dental assistants receive benefit packages from their
dentist/employers that may include health and disability insurance
coverage, paid vacations and allowance for uniforms.
The demand for dental services will continue to grow with increased
older populations, preventive care, and the increased awareness of
regular dental care will provide Dental Health Technology students
with increased employment opportunities.
