| Machine tools account for most of the modern conveniences of today.
Just think how far man has progressed in the past century through the
use of machine tools and how little, by comparison, was accomplished in
the previous 10,000 years with hand tools alone. Machine tools are largely responsible for the great material
progress of the last 100 years.

Persons employed in the precision machining field operate machine
tools, which shape and form materials to precise dimensions. A machine
tool is a precision, power driven machine used to shape or form material
by cutting, impact, pressure, electrical current, or a combination of
these processes. A machine tool brings the material into contact with a
cutting tool to cut, shape or form the material to the desired
specifications. Shapeless blocks and bars are transformed into intricate
parts such as tools, gears and pistons. |
Literally everything manufactured starts in precision machining,
since every manufacturing process uses machining techniques to create
its production lines. The Precision Machining program at SUN Tech
provides the opportunity to develop the skills and learn the technology
necessary to operate machine tools safely and accurately. In depth
instruction in the operation of saws, milling machines, lathes and
grinders is provided. CNC (computer numerical control) instruction is
also provided. Material characteristics, heat treatment of metals and
blueprint reading are also studied.
