Students entering the welding program should be in good physical
condition and have good physical strength. Importance should be placed
on good eyesight, manual dexterity, and good hand and eye coordination.
They should be able to concentrate on detailed work for long periods of
time. They should be free of any physical disabilities that would
prevent them from bending, stooping and working in awkward positions.
Courses in drafting, blueprint reading, mathematics, general science,
and basic electricity are helpful.
Success in the welding program will come to those who have
self-discipline and patience. They should enjoy working with others and
be able to work under pressure. It helps to have the creativity and
ability to visualize a completed project while creating it from a plan.
