Hello SUN Tech Families,

Your child’s success is important to us at SUN Tech and together we will work through these challenging times.  Instructors have reached out to connect with your child over the past week and are now ready to resume educating your child.  Our focus will be to assist with completing any PC Now / dual enrollment courses, industry credentials, licensing/certification exam preparation, and finally any topics instructors deem essential to employment.

Moving forward instructors will have office hours two times a week and are expected to connect with your child at least once a week.  Every Monday updated course assignments will be posted on the SUN Tech website under the Coursework tab.  It is important that all students complete the required planned instruction assignments given by their instructors in order to meet course requirements.  The technical content will come in many forms: paper and pencil, internet links, online simulations, and online coursework and review.  Some assignments will be listed as planned learning (graded) while others will simply be enrichment (ungraded).  Most importantly our goal is to reach every child with the resources available to complete their senior year on a positive note and graduate.  Please be aware that the SUN Tech parking lot is also an internet hot spot for students (be sure to use your SUN Tech log-in).

Please continue to check the Coronavirus tab for detailed announcements, automated calls are only highlights due to the length of information.  Many have inquired about students graduating, as we receive further updates those decisions will be made.  Each sending district will need to determine what graduation requirements will be in put into place for this year.  We anticipate all students collaborating with their instructor to complete the SUN Tech course content this year and earn their program certificate in May.  Plans for the certificate and awards ceremonies have not been determined yet.

We will continue to post announcements, internet hot spot locations, and community and wellness resources to our website under the Coronavirus tab.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns by leaving a message at 570-966-1031 ext. 110 or emailing at jhain@sun-tech.org.

Take care and have a good evening.

Hola Familias De SUN Tech,

Good Afternoon SUN Tech Families,

Yesterday Governor Wolf extended school closures until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Your child’s instructors are continuing to reach out to identify technology availability.  Instructors will also be inquiring about shirt sizes, our local SkillsUSA organization will be purchasing every student a class t-shirt to distributed later this year.  We are also working to put a yearbook together for this year’s graduating class.

We met virtually as an instructional team this week to discuss moving forward to educate the SUN Tech student body.  Our Continuity of Education Plan will focus on preparing students to take licensing/certification exams, earn industry credentials, completion of dual enrollment courses (PC NOW), and complete essential skills for employment.  Moving forward instructors will have office hours two times a week and are expected to reach out to your child at least once a week.  Every Monday assignments will be posted on our website for your child to complete.  The technical content will come in many forms: paper and pencil, internet links, online simulations, and online coursework and review.  Some assignments will be listed as planned learning (graded) while others will simply be enrichment (ungraded).  When the website is up and running, I will send out another automated call directing you to visit the SUN Tech website.  Most importantly our goal is to reach every child with the resources available to complete their senior year on a positive note.   Please be aware that the SUN Tech parking lot is also an internet hot spot for students.

Good Afternoon SUN Tech Families,

Your child’s success is important to us at SUN Tech and together we will work through these challenging times.  Instructors will be reaching out to your family by early next week to understand any concerns, technology needs, and methods we can use moving forward to complete the school year.

Next week I will be meeting with staff and instructors to draft our Continuity of Education Plan moving forward.  Our focus will be to assist with completing any PC Now / dual enrollment courses, industry credentials, licensing/certification exam preparation, and finally any topics instructors deem essential to employment.

This coursework will come in a variety of methods that allows every student and each technical program to be successful.  Once our system is up and running, a tab will be placed on our website near the Coronavirus tab listing coursework by program.  I will also send an automated call to alert your child to the availability of the coursework.

We understand that all licensing exam centers have been closed due to Governor Wolf’s non-essential business closures and tests may not be available until the Summer or Fall.  Please assure your child we are committed to do our best in assisting them as much as possible in this unique situation.

Third marking period grading will be ended on March 13th.  Report cards will be issued at the earliest convenience.

Buenas tardes SUN Tech Families,

Continuaré revisando correos electrónicos y mensajes telefónicos a menudo.

Tenga cuidado, manténgase a salvo y esté bien.

Dear SUN Tech Families,

Today, Governor Wolf announced all Pennsylvania schools would be closed until after April 6th, with the first student day starting on April 9th unless extending the closure is needed to prevent the continuing spread of the Coronavirus.

Pennsylvania Department of Education announced today that the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) testing is cancelled for the 2019-2020 school year.

I will be working with instructors this week to discuss the possibility of an education continuation plan for our SUN Tech students.  I appreciate your patience as we work collaboratively to meet your child’s needs as an aspiring skilled professional in the community.

Sincerely,

Sinceramente,

Jennifer Hain

Dear SUN Tech Parents/Guardians and Students;

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not issued specific guidance on the prevention of the coronavirus in schools, we would like to share with you, general guidance offered by the CDC.  Currently, there are no documented cases of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania.  This information is being shared for situational awareness purposes.

According to the CDC, the symptoms of someone infected with the coronavirus include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.  Symptoms may appear anywhere from two to 14 days after an individual has been exposed to the virus.  It can be spread through sneezing and coughing, as well as by touching an object or surface containing the virus.

The CDC has set forth the following guidance regarding prevention of the coronavirus:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

From a practical standpoint, the most important things we can do to help ensure the safety of our school community is to frequently wash our hands (before eating, before and after using the restroom, after we cough or sneeze, etc.), and also stay home when we are sick so we do not run the risk of infecting others.

The cleaning products we use in the school should be effective in killing the coronavirus.  It is also suggested that Lysol spray and disinfecting wipes should be effective in killing the virus as well.

More information on the coronavirus can be found on the CDC’s web site here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html .

Should you have further concerns or questions, please fee free to reach out to my office at

(570)-966-1031 ext. 110 or jhain@sun-tech.org.
